Diago was adopted from the dog pound as a happy little guy.  His humans chained him to a plywood box and broke his heart.  A relative, with the help of Dogs Deserve Better (http://dogsdeservebetter.com/) saved him from a lifetime of misery.  Diago spent about 1½ years on the chain.
